We welcomed a number of Coleshill ringers tonight to welcome Rev Becky Stephens, as their loss is our parish's gain. We rang several times covering some very good rounds and call changes as well as a few courses of Plain Bob Doubles. It was lovely to have a choice of ringers. The service was well attended with a lot of visitors including the Bishop of Aston. During the service the new Rector has to ring a bell and the number of times it rings is reputed to be the number of years that she plans to stay. So watch this space in eleven years time.....
We rang all six bells to welcome the close to 100 tired walkers back at the end of todays Rogation walk.
Once again we rang all six for the morning service with the bells half muffled. Service was lovely with a live bugle player to make the two minutes silence even more special.
Come and see this weekend the Flower Festival in St Giles church. Its theme is the countryside but be sure not to miss our very own window. The Bellringers window created by Helen is all about the impact of the local railway on our landscape and includes a replica in flowers of a 1839 locomotive which was first built for our line when it was brand new.
A group of seven of us joined to ring in the New Year of 2015 with some good rounds and basic methods even after the festivities. Many thanks to all who rang and helped Whitacre continue the tradition of ringing in the New Year.
A happy New Year to all. We did ring the new 2013 year in and mourn the passing of 2012 with six hardy souls meeting at 11.30pm. We had a busy ringing day as we had nearly all rung for the wedding at St Giles earlier that day but at least this meant the bells had been left up and did not need raising. Did mean we decided not to ring the bells in their traditional half muffled state before midnight in case any of you were listening hard and could not tell the difference. This year there was none. No prizes but well done if you noticed.
If you fancy a new challenge and want to met nice people why not come along and give bellringing a try. No experience or rthymn needed. The bells sounded different before the service this Sunday. They were half muffled in respect of the sacrifice of those involved in all war theatres. It is a beautiful sober tone which makes them sound quite different. The bells are muffled with leather straps that clothe one side of the clapper all but stopping the noise as it strikes the sound bow of the bell.
