Rung to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the signing of the VJ treaty on this day in 1945 and the release of the father of a former Whitacre ringer, James Whiskens (1916-1974) of the 18th Division of the 5th Battalion of Bedfordshire and Herefordshire regiment who was captured in the fall of Singapore on 15th February 1942 and held captive in Burma to this date seventy years ago.
