Maurice was a keen ringer with our band but was also in charge of Shustoke for many years. Whilst he has not rung with us due to ill health since before Covid prior to this he was a regular attender to both practice nights and service ringing at Whitacre. Our thoughts are with his family as they mourn his passing.
The bells were rung on the 19th September 2022 deeply muffled immediately following the committal service at St Georges Chapel, Windsor on the day of the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
The ringers who rang were Steve Collins, Quentin Howell, Xavier Howell, David Jackson, Anne Jackson, Michael Miller Requiescet in pace Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor 21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022 The bells were rung fully muffled after the formal announcement of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We used both our new and old muffles to complete this ringing and made sure that all present both old and young were able to ring. Even our youngest learners both are able to say that they rang for this event. The bells in England have not been heard this way since the death of the Queens father so it is a very rare event to hear the bells ringing in this way. The ringers rang the bells for the Dick Dale memorial service. The service reminded us what a kind gentleman Dick was with plenty of reminders of his wry sense of humour. Refreshments afterwards allowed more memories to be shared. The order of service contained some lovely photographic reminders of both Dick and his beloved wife Mary.
The bells were rung at midday on April 10th 2021 for ten minutes half muffled to commemorate the life of HRH Prince Phillip who passed away yesterday aged 99. The country had been asked to mark the occasion with ninety nine tolls or ringing but as we had a large family bubble we were able to ring in a COVID safe manner, missing the fifth out.
Regretfully for our band, Dick Dale has passed away on Friday 13th Novemeber in his 90th year, after a short period in George Elliot hospital. Dick has been a member of our band since the installation of the bells in 1977 but had learnt at Shustoke beforehand. He was actively ringing with the band right up till the beginning of lockdown and celebrated his 90th birthday in August. His funeral will be on Tues 1st December with a simple graveside burial. Mourners are asked to socially distance line the road between his home and the church entrance only. |
