Youth striking contest success

6/7/2024

Xavier was part of the Three Spires team entered by the Lichfield Guild which took place in London. The team had an early morning slot at St James Garlickhythe (the tower in which the Queens golden jubilee bells are now hung) and then enjoyed open ringing at various City of London towers including the famous St Mary le-Bow bells. Three Spires came 3rd in the call change competition on six bells out of a total of 14 teams and were very pleased to get a medal and credit for their hard work. Well done to all the team.

Jubilee ringing

3/6/2022

A group of us met to celebrate the dedication of Her Majesty the Queen and rang to remind people of the service starting at Westminster this morning. David and Anne, Mike, Steve, Hazel, Quentin and Xavier all participated in ringing rounds and call changes - including the tune Queens of course - as well as plain bob minor and grandsire doubles.

New Year 2022

1/1/2022

We last rang the new year celebration back in 2019 but then only managed to ring five and have not rung it properly since 2018. This year we met with a few more than we needed to ring the old year out half muffled and then ring 2022 in with open bells. We missed Ian and Jane who are now based elsewhere and remembered David and Dick (who no doubt heard us from the churchyard) and both would of approved of the nice touch of Plain Bob Doubles that welcomed the New Year in.

Happy New Year to all.

Dick Dale memorial service

10/10/2021

The ringers rang the bells for the Dick Dale memorial service. The service reminded us what a kind gentleman Dick was with plenty of reminders of his wry sense of humour. Refreshments afterwards allowed more memories to be shared. The order of service contained some lovely photographic reminders of both Dick and his beloved wife Mary.

Parish bells ring out

23/3/2021

A bell in each of the parish churches rang out today to mark the anniversary of the first COVID lockddown and to commemorate those who have lost their lives due to the pandemic. Thanks to Sharon at Over Whitacre, Roy at Shustoke, Mike at Nether Whitacre and Steve at Lea Marston for ringing at 12.01 just after midday.

Dick celebrates his 90th birthday

29/7/2020

The ringers all celebrated Dicks 90th birthday with a socially distanced party. Originally planned to be on the lawn of his house an illness hiccup forced us to be creative. Each ringer was delivered a piece of cake and a scone baked by Helen and Sharon respectively along with a card to remind them to toast Dick. We hope that Dick enjoyed his cake, scone, card and present and had a lovely day. Shame we could not celebrate and ring the bells too.

CONVID19 closure

17/3/2020

In line with advice all further ringing is suspended till further notice.

New Year 2020

1/1/2020

Four of us met to ring in the New Year and welcome 2020. We still managed to ring five and make welcoming noise but we missed others who were ill, particularly David and Hazel along with Ian.

Ringing outing

9/11/2019

About thirty of us met in the church car park to join a 1981 Leyland Leopard bus for a proper coach based outing to celebrate a birthday. We travelled to Meriden where the birthday boy had rung an all under eighteen quarter peal and managed to get the bus up the country lane approach. Next was Ryton which had last been rung as a six but was now an eight. Lunch at a great pub in Hillmorton (Stag and Pheasant) then squeezed the bus under the low railway bridge to ring at the church. Good ringing here with memories of Tony Pickering (ex RAF hurricane pilot). Onward to a very vertical ladder entrance at Claybrooke which finished with a very good touch of Stedman Triples and finally repeating the end of the very first outing of Whitacre tower organised by the birthday boy's father way back in 1979. Mancetter back then was a ground floor ring and very hard work now transformed into a upstairs ringing chamber but still very heavy! Not helped by the third and fourth being put up wrong but many found these quite a challenge. However we did managed a super course of stedman doubles at a suitable stately pace on these half muffled bells. The coach then dropped us home having kept us warm and dry during the day. It was lovely to have some many join us to celebrate.
